Secondary Work Groups

Mathematical Thinking for GCSE

DEADLINE CLOSED. Please contact Jo Brereton at mathshubs@painsley.staffs.sch.uk to express an interest in this Work Group.

Teachers or departments keen to address the reasoning and problem-solving challenges of the mathematics curriculum and its assessment at GCSE are encouraged to take part in this project. Work Groups will explore professional development activities, focusing on practical and accessible classroom-based approaches. The activities themselves also offer a model for wider departmental engagement with professional development processes, and hence could provide the basis of an effective departmental improvement programme in this area.

Previous participants have suggested that this work group has ‘transformed their teaching’ as well as ‘developing their confidence’ for delivering CPD. Please see our flyer for more information and book here.

Fully funded by the North Mids Maths Hub, this free programme will develop the confidence and skills of TAs in supporting maths in the secondary and middle school classroom, as well as with intervention activities.

The programme of 3 sessions explores pedagogy in maths for TAs, using a range of techniques, manipulatives and the maths TA toolkit. TA’s will have gap tasks to implement in their own school and upon completion, receive certification from the Maths Hub and National Teaching School.

Two cohorts are being offered, one at Discovery Academy, Stoke On Trent and the other at St Thomas More Catholic, Willenhall.

Early booking is highly recommended for this Autumn Term programme. Please register using the links on the flyer above.
