Are you looking to develop your Maths Leadership skills?
Has your school completed a Development, Embedding or Sustaining TfM Work Groups in the past? Yes!
Then, you are eligible to join a Teaching for Mastery Work Group for 2025/26.
Please note: If you have been part of a Development or Embedding TfM Work Group in 2024/25 please contact your Work Group Lead via Basecamp for more information.
Who can take part?
This programme is for primary schools in England that have previously participated in a Development, Embedding or Sustaining Work Group.
Each participating school will nominate staff to engage in the Work Group. The Maths Leader will attend the Teaching for Mastery Work Group. Additional staffs can also be signed up to attend this or the focus themes. Leaders should support them to lead developments across the school.
What is the cost?
The Primary Teaching for Mastery project is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
What is the Time Commitment?
The time commitment for a Primary Teaching for Mastery Work Groups is equivalent to 3.5 days minimum. Optional Focus Theme Work Group will be between 3 – 4 half days.
Teaching for Mastery Work Group
The Teaching for Mastery Work Groups facilitate:
- A long-term mutually supportive community of school leaders who effect system change
- A community of subject leaders who drive and evaluate ongoing mathematics development and implementation
- Collaborative and reflective lesson observations
- Collaborative lesson design opportunities
- Planning to maximise the impact of professional development
- Opportunities to work on focused themes such as mixed-age, oracy, and more.
The Work Groups will have an average of 12 schools as members and will involve leaders and teachers working together over time.
Sessions will focus on:
- Developing and understanding effective leadership practice
- Observing live teaching for mastery lessons
- Implementing a particular aspect of teaching for mastery (lesson design)
- Refining systems to maximise impact on pupils.
Focus Themed Work Groups (Optional)
By registering for a TfM Work Group, you’ll also gain access to one of our optional Focus Themed Work Groups, designed to support specific areas of interest and development.
Themes for next year (subject demand) may include:
- Securing Mastering Number at KS1
- Securing Mastering Number at KS2
- Mastering Number in Y3
- EYFS for Maths Leads
- New to Teaching for Mastery
- Problem Solving
- Maths in Mixed Age Classes
- SEND in Mainstream
- Oracy
- Using the Curriculum Prioritisation Materials
