Research and Innovation Work Group
Developing your EYFS Teaching Assistants in Mastering Number schools
Led by Jaz Paul and Victoria Day
To allow like-minded leaders of mathematics to work collaboratively to develop problem solving within their schools.
Is your school delivering Mastering Number in EYFS?
Do you want to work with like-minded Maths Leaders to implement effective evidence-informed PD for Reception Teaching Assistants, so that they can consistently deliver maths-rich interactions within the continuous provision outside the Mastering Number session?
Whats involved?
Children in Reception are naturally curious, noticing differences in quantity and the shape of objects. Reception TAs can support them to use and apply early mathematical concepts within the continuous provision. This could be by radiating mathematical language or facilitating conversations about objects, modelling sharing amounts or counting in play.
This Research Innovation Work Group will support building Maths Leaders' confidence, knowledge and understanding of how they can develop TAs to maximise impact outside of the daily Teaching for Mastery adult-led sessions.
What will you learn?
You will explore how the principles of Teaching for Mastery and focused strands of subject knowledge can be further developed and enhanced through Maths-rich interactions within the continuous provision, beyond the Adult-guided sessions.
The Work Group will support you to develop TAs in your own setting, focusing on mathematical language and how the concepts in Mastering Number can be further embedded.
