Welcome to North Mids Maths Hub website led by Painsley Catholic College in Cheadle, Staffordshire.
North Mids Maths Hub is one of a network of 40 Maths Hubs in England, working together within the Maths Hubs Programme, which began in 2014. The programme is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and coordinated by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM)

University of Wolverhampton, Walsall Campus, Walsall, WS1 3EZThis one-day conference has been organised jointly by the AMSP and the West Midlands Maths Hubs and will showcase current, outstanding professional development opportunities for teachers of mathematics in our communities. The conference will consist of a keynote talk from Ben Sparks on "The Creation of Number" and a variety of workshops for delegates to engage with. The available workshops are being delivered by members of the Maths Hubs and AMSP teams, set around some of the work they have engaged with this year.

North Mids and Cheshire and Wirral Maths Hubs, are hosting a Core Maths Work Group Taster Day at Reaseheath College in Nantwich. This is an opportunity to join a work group as it reflects on this year and starts to think about the next, and see how it could support and improve Core Maths teaching in your school or college. They will be sharing ideas and resources along with their reflections.
The day will be suitable for those already teaching Core Maths, about to begin, or even if your institution is thinking of introducing Core Maths to its offer. Teachers from outside these Maths Hubs are welcome to attend, as they can experience a Work Group and still sign up to their local Maths Hub for next year.

Walsall Campus of the University of WolverhamptonNorth Mids and Central Maths Hubs have come together to put on this Secondary Mastery conference for all teachers in the West Midlands region. It aims to share a number of interesting ideas that teachers can use in their practice as well as provide an enjoyable, hands-on day. The conference will feature keynote talks by Dr Katie Steckles and Peter Mattock plus a number of workshops for you to choose from, led by our Secondary Mastery Specialists.

Thinking about A-Level teaching, for those new to A-Level

Keele University, Keele, Staffordshire, ST5 5BGThis one-day in person PD event is aimed at teachers who are new to teaching A level Mathematics and those who are seeking to refresh their approach in this context.
The sessions will focus on Induction and Supporting Transition, Problem Solving and Proof and the use of technology.
We will not be focusing on knowledge and content or specific A-level topics, but will look at trigonometry, calculus, algebra and coordinate geometry within the context of each session.
This professional development day is entirely free. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Details of the new opportunities for schools to work with North Mids Maths Hubs and the NCETM in 2024/25 are now available. 24-18 Securing Foundation for Year 7
**NEW COURSE FOR 2024/25**
Discover ways to help students who need additional support to make good progress in KS3 and beyond
This project is for teachers working with those Year 7 students who have not met age related expectations in maths, particularly students whose attainment is in the bottom 20-30% of the national cohort at the end of KS2. It is suitable for experienced or novice teachers.

Mastering Number at KS2 Work Groups
We are currently awaiting further information regarding Mastering Number at KS2 from the NCTEM. Register your interest above and be first to hear when it comes live!
This project is for schools that are involved in Mastering Number at Reception and KS1, and are also in a Sustaining Work Group. Lead participants from Work Group schools will be two teachers – one from each of Year 4 and Year 5. Support will also be given to maths leads and headteachers.
